UltraVioletCineplex Entertainment is once again on the forefront of all things movies, following last month’s launch of UltraViolet in Canada.

UltraViolet is a cloud-based digital ecosystem that enables consumers to access their digital movie collection at home and on-the-go, using a wide variety of apps and services, including PCs, mobile devices, smartphones, connected TVs, Blu-ray disc players and more.

UltraViolet playback works with PC and Mac streaming devices; certain Samsung and LG smart TVs and Blu-ray players, as well as LG set-top boxes and Apple’s iPad.  Android playback functionality will follow later this year, along with gaming consoles.

“We’re proud to be on the forefront of the future of home movie entertainment,” said Mike Langdon, director, communications, Cineplex Entertainment.  “UltraViolet provides Cineplex Store customers with a whole new way to store and enjoy their digital collection.”

Canadian customers can purchase UltraViolet titles through the Cineplex Store and have them stored to their digital locker.  In the future, UltraViolet enabled discs will include a PIN code that allows Canadian customers to purchase a physical copy of a movie – and then to redeem the code and also store the digital copy in the cloud.

In addition to the flexibility and safety of the cloud, Ultraviolet allows purchasers to share movies with up to five family members.

UltraViolet currently has five movies available for Canadian customers.  They are: Pitch Perfect, Total Recall (the Colin Farrell version), Trouble with the Curve, Bourne Legacy and Ted.
